This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version 7 and assumes you have a working knowledge of PSP.
Any resemblence to another tutorial is purely coincidental.

For this tutorial you will need the following

The zip file contains the Morpheus TTF file and the gold tile used for the text
or feel free to use your own font and gold.

Extract the font to wherever you place your fonts (nomally C drive > Windows > Fonts.
Open the gold tile in PSP and minimise it for later.

1.Open your feather tube and resize to 60-70 % depending on which feather you are using.
Image > Resize > 60% of original > All layers and maintain checked.

2. Effects > 3d Effects > Drop shadow, with these settings
Vertical & Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 70
Blur = 6
Colour = #C0C0C0 (light Grey)

3. Image > Canvas size > resize the canvas to W 500 X H 300 center horizontal & vertical both Checked.

4. On the layer palette, duplicate layer 1 ....4 times and rename them layers 1 - 5
leaving them in order of 1 at the bottom and 5 at the top.

5. Activate layer 1, Image Rotate 84 degrees left, All Layers UNCHECKED
position the points of the feathers with the mover tool
Effects > Sharpen > Sharpen.
On the layer palette, duplicate layer 1 then Image > Mirror
rename copied layer to Layer 9, drag this layer to the top of your palette.

6. Activate layer 2, Image Rotate 63 degrees left, All Layers UNCHECKED
position the points with the mover tool
Effects > Sharpen > Sharpen.
On the layer palette, duplicate layer 2 then Image > Mirror
rename copied layer to Layer 8, drag this layer to under layer 9.

7. Activate layer 3, Image Rotate 42 degrees left, All Layers UNCHECKED
position the points with the mover tool
Effects > Sharpen > Sharpen.
On the layer palette, duplicate layer 3 then Image > Mirror
rename copied layer to Layer 7, drag this layer to under layer 8.

8. Activate layer 4, Image Rotate 21 degrees left, All Layers UNCHECKED
position the points with the mover tool
Effects > Sharpen > Sharpen.
On the layer palette, duplicate layer 4 then Image > Mirror
rename copied layer to Layer 6. drag this layer to under layer 7.
Your image should look something like this

and your layer palette like this

If you are not happy with the line up of your fan then adjust them with the mover tool before you continue.

9. Add a new layer, name it Background, flood fill with white,
drag this to the bottom of your layer palette.

10. File > Jasc Software Products > Launch Animation Shop.

11. In PSP.....make sure your background layer is highlighted and hide layers 2 - 9
Edit > Copy Merged > go to Animation shop and paste as new animation.
Back to PSP, unhide layer 2 > Copy Merged > AS > Paste after current.

Keep unhiding a layer, copying merged, and pasting after current till all your fan is in AS.

Now we are going to make the fan close *S*

12. In PSP make sure the bg layer is activated, hide layer 1 > copy merged > AS, paste after current.
Repeat this, hiding another layer till you only have layer 9 on view
AS should now have 17 frames.

Back to PSP

13. Unhide all layers of your fan

14. Add a new layer > name it TEXT > and make sure it is at the top of your palette.

15. Select your text tool
Set your foreground & background to a solid colour, I used black #000000
Click on the fan to bring up your text window.

Type your name or whatever then OK
Place in the center of your fan....selections > select none.

16. Change your fore and background styles to the gold tile or your own gold gradient
and add the same text again but place it slightly to the right and down a bit,
(so the black looks like a shadow).

17.While still selected.....Colours > adjust brightness and contrast.
Brightness = 20
Contrast = 0......OK
Selections > select none.

Now we are going to take the text to AnimationShop

18. Edit > Copy (not merged)
AS....Edit > Paste > as new animation.

19. Edit > Duplicate Selected....do this 5 times till you have 17 frames
the same amount as your fan.

20. Edit > Select All > Edit > Copy.

Then go to your fan

21. Edit > Select All > Edit > Paste > Into Selected frame
DO NOT CLICK the mouse until your text is in the position you want it (centered)
TIP.....look at your text positioning in PSP because you will only have the first feather as a guide.

Right click and view the animation......I slowed my frame properties down to 15
Edit select all > Animation > Frame properties > change the 10 to 15......OK

22. Go to frame 9 of your animation, so you can see the full fan,
grab the crop tool and crop off any excess white.

23. Use the optimise wizard and save your fan!!!!....Voila.

If you have any problems, please send me an email.

This is another one I done by adding letters to each feather
before exporting to Animation Shop.
I duplicated the last frame a few times, added a flower and sparkle to them
and left the fan open.

I love to see how others adapt tutorials to their own taste...
so please feel free to mail me with your creations.
